What is laiout for Revit?
laiout for Revit is a Revit add-in that brings the laiout web app directly into your Revit workflow. It sends the flat 2D outline of a floor to laiout, where AI generates furniture and space layouts in seconds. The chosen layout is then placed back into the Revit model as real Revit elements. It removes the manual work of getting a Revit floor into laiout with no redrawing or cleanup, lets you generate and compare layout options fast, and brings the result back into BIM. The .rvt file never leaves your machine; only the 2D outline is uploaded.
Where is laiout for Revit installed?
laiout for Revit is a Revit add-in installed via a standalone Windows MSI. It is not installed from within the laiout web app. The MSI drops the add-in into the per-user Revit add-ins folder for each installed year of Revit.
Which Revit versions is laiout for Revit compatible with?
laiout for Revit is compatible with Revit 2024, 2025, and 2026. Support for Revit 2027 is coming soon.
What is the core workflow?
Export a floor from Revit, then generate and favourite layouts in the laiout web app, then import the chosen favourite back into Revit. The plugin polls and notifies you when favourites are ready or updated in the web app, so you know when to return to Revit and import.
How does laiout for Revit relate to the existing Revit Export feature?
laiout for Revit extends the existing Revit Export in three important ways. First, it runs inside Revit rather than from an uploaded file: you export the live floor straight from the model with one click, and your .rvt never leaves the machine (only the flat 2D outline is sent). Second, it is two-way. The layout you generate in laiout comes back into Revit as real, placed elements, whereas the file-based export had no return path. Third, it keeps your model clean and native. On the way back, it preserves your existing envelope and elevation walls as real editable Revit Wall elements (correct heights, types, schedule data) and adds only the generated layout on top. It does not rebuild your shell as throwaway DirectShape geometry, so there are no duplicate walls or non-native geometry polluting the model. See Revit Export for the file-based export path.
Who is laiout for Revit built for?
laiout for Revit is built for existing Revit users doing architectural, interior, or workplace space planning: architects, interior designers, and space planners who also use laiout. It bridges Revit users and laiout designers. It is not aimed at MEP or structural engineers, as the plugin reads and creates no MEP, lighting, or structural content.
What can laiout for Revit export from my model?
laiout for Revit reads walls, curtain walls, columns, doors, floor slabs, and placed Rooms and Areas from your Revit model. It auto-classifies rooms by name, supports open-shell marking, DWG-layer mapping, and linked-model use. Every export runs a pre-export readiness check and produces a local diagnostic report.
What comes back into Revit when I import a layout?
When you import a layout back into Revit, the plugin places real Revit elements from a bundled family template: partition and glass walls, doors, floor finishes, furniture, and Rooms with tags. The import is round-trip safe: it skips your existing shell (no duplicate walls), cleanly replaces any prior import, and stamps its own elements so your originals are never touched.
Do I need a laiout subscription to use laiout for Revit?
Yes. An active laiout subscription is required, as all layout generation happens in the laiout web app. You sign in with your normal laiout account, and the plugin uses your subscription to authorise generation.
